I Will Not Wait.......

I will not wait for the sun to rise.
Nor will I wait to watch it set.
I will not wait for the morning sky or for what lays ahead.
I will not wait for the rain to start.
Nor will I wait to see the stars.
I will not wait for light to shine nor for the darkness that makes us blind.
I will not stay to let time pass.
Nor shall I stay to make it last.
I will not wait to see your eyes nor shall I stay to hear your cries.
I will not dream of us in life.
Nor shall I stay to believe more lies.
I shall not wait for this to be as I am finally set free.

Dedicated to the brave soldier who was killed in Afghanistan yesterday...RIP...

My sincere condolences to his family at this sad time.....

Cast aside these mortal cares
And through the gates, go bold.
This side the body may not leave
Nor can the spirit hold.

The other, where your light now glows,
Is distant as a breath.
Extinguished candle, light sublime,
Rekindled by cold death.

We had so little time to share,
Too soon, I had to leave.
I know how much you love me,
I know how much you grieve.

I know how sharp your pain is,
I feel the aching in your hearts.
My life so quickly ended
Before it barely had a start.

I remember how you held me,
And kissed my face and hands,
You cuddled me so gently;
But, God had other plans.

I was your perfect angel,
From God you knew I came,
Suddenly he called me home again,
And now God holds my hand

Dedicated to the two brave soldiers who were killed in Afghanistan yesterday ... RIP ...

My sincere condolences to their families at this sad time .....

The morning paper
Held familiar news of
Another soldier
Sacrificed…
A burnt offering on
The altar of war.

Another one gone.

Like seconds on a clock,
Each one lost
Is gone forever,
Never to be regained.

Such a loss means
One less bouquet of roses,
No more teddy bears, and
Silenced pillow talk.

Another one gone.

Some flags wave high above
Ribbon-adorned trees,
While others tuck in
Those who sleep for eternity.

Public speeches stir up
Conflicts of support and dissent;
Private mourning fuels
A forever-altered normality
For those left behind.

Another one gone,
Though never forgotten,
Despite the endless names
Flowing like rivers
Past the gate of eternity.

Dedicated to the brave soldier who was killed in Afghanistan yesterday ... RIP ...

My sincere condolences to his family at this sad time .....

The face of a child, the courage of a man,
When others asked "WHY?", he said "I'm a soldier, and I can."
Off to defend our country in war,
Not knowing that God had other plans in store.
Taken from his family, and bringing them tears,
Such a young man, so mature for his years.
He now joins his brothers, forgotten never,
God's newest angel...A SOLDIER forever!

Those we love are never really lost to us--
we feel them in so many special ways--
through friends they always cared about
and dreams they left behind,
in beauty that they added to our days...
in words of wisdom we still carry with us
and memories that never will be gone...
Those we love
are never really lost to us--
for everywhere their special love lives on

Dusty box in closet spare
tired eyes in thinning hair
memories of friendships past
calm the nightmares that will last
dress in uniform fit is tight
comrades in arms to spend the night
hoist a glass of spirits now
as the years fall from brow
was this the youth I used to be
when called for country overseas
left home and family far behind
band of brothers ease the mind
stride for stride we march along
for each other remain strong
battle won can mourn our loss
tally up the terrible cost
thoughts and dreams as they roam
learning now will be going home
others too under locks
winging home in wooden box
touching down on native soil
see crowds of family start to boil
emotions begin to overflow
lovers face in halo’s glow
eyes that see only one
all the medals that were won
little child peeps around
to see the parent that has come down
holding tight to fragile frame
this is worth more than fame
returning to civilian life
many pleasures ease the strife
strangers offer thanks to me
helped keep children’s country free
watching own family grow
not immune to all the woe
when time has come for eternal rest
twas in fact for the best
drifting now back through time
interrupted by doorbell’s chime
my old friends here at last
come on in let’s have a blast

"I was that, which others cared not to be. I went where others feared to go and did what others failed to do. I asked nothing from those that gave nothing. and, reluctantly, accepted the thought of eternal loneliness...should I fail. I have seen the face of terror, felt the chill of fear, warmed to the touch of love. I have hoped, pained, cried. But, foremost, lived in times others would say, best forgotten. At the very least, in later days, I will be able to say with greatest pride, that I was indeed a SOLDIER"................

The following 6 poems were written by me and I dedicate them to our brave boys and girls in the armed forces serving around the world ...... I SALUTE YOU .......

The British Soldier goes to War
(written by bravolima) 6th June 2007

The Soldier stands upright
As rigid as a pole
Better being a fighting man
Than being on the dole

He took his country shilling
And off to war he went
Leaving behind his loved ones
With treasured words he meant

Going out on Patrol keeping the peace
On the crowded streets of hatred
Landmines buried on dusty roads
In a Civil War they have created

A six month tour is very long
The days go ever so slow
The snipers are watching and waiting
For the soldiers to come out on show

The crack is what the soldier hears
The thud is what he will feel
The pain from the snipers bullet
This will be excruciating unreal

He is touched by human suffering
His sleep pattern is disturbed
He will deeply mourn the people killed
He will be shaken and badly stirred

Now homeward bound he will go
To forget the horrors he did see
Let`s remember him with pride
My soldier son is home and safe with me

The Soldiers Dream
(written by bravolima) 3rd May 2008

Every soldier has a dream
Whilst going off to war
He dreams of coming home
And what he`s fighting for

The promise he made to his mother
Whispered in a farewell embrace
Or the tears he wipes away
From his little sisters face

He shakes the hand of his father
Then hugs him ever so tight
He's holding back the tears
With all of his might

His wife kisses him so tenderly
While his son is at his knee
He scoops him up into his arms
The tears flow for all to see

His little boy wipes his tears
And say`s “Daddy don't cry”
I will look after mum for you
If you were to die

He puts his son down
And turns to walk away
Dreaming, that he will
Make it home one day

A Soldier Till I Die…………

(written by bravolima) 25th June 2008

Twenty three years I gave my all
I served my country I heeded their call
I was still just a boy when I signed on the line
I did not see the adventure that soon would be mine

After my training I got on a plane
I arrived at my unit fresh faced & sane
This young little boy grew up so fast
Putting aside the pain of the past

Then came the day the adventure had come
On with my flak jacket and take up my gun
To patrol the streets of Belfast fair city
Where the abuse was rife but the girls were pretty

For all of my career I gave them my best
I am proud to have served and have medals on my chest
But now I am older and wiser and lost a little zest
So now is the time for my well earned rest

But a soldiers spirit is forever in my heart
Also the love of my country will never depart
So if ever my country should call upon me
I would still give my life to keep us all free

Friends Are Forever.........
(written by bravolima) 10th January 2009

My mind is wandering back
To when we were boys
All through our childhood
We shared our toys

We grew up together
Never were we apart
We were like twins
Sharing the same heart

When we left school
We shared the same job
We enlisted in the army
We joined the same mob

We trained side by side
We went through the pain
We grew from boys to men
We would never be the same

Then off to Northern Ireland
Like the three tours before
To protect the vulnerable people
From this mindless civil war

Patrolling the streets of Belfast
Or the countryside of Armagh
We were protecting each other
Never ever straying too far

I still remember that morning
It`s implanted in my mind
How did I miss that wire
Why, oh why was I blind

Now after all these years
Each one comes and goes
Never will I forget you
As on your grave I place a rose
----------------------------------------------

Two Little Boys by Rolf Harris inspired me to write this poem in memory of my best mate who was sadly killed in Northern Ireland in 1972 ..... RIP mate .....

Coming Home…………..

(written by bravolima) 10th November 2007

Inside the grey steel womb, of a C130
Flag covered coffins quietly lie
The bodies of, fine young soldiers
Oh why did they have to die.

Fine words are spoken for these gallant men
Whose coffins are inside
Lets all try to comprehend
The reason why they died

Fighting terrorism in a far off land
Leaving behind the ones they love
They are doing their duty for a promised Land
Seeking the trust of the God above

Oh why do men invent such things
As implements of war?
To kill our love ones, break our hearts
Oh, God what is it for?

Why do so many have to go
Why don't they all return?
We must leave the answer to our God,
It is for us to learn!

They are gone but not forgotten
They are in our hearts and mind,
They will always be a part of us
Until the end of time.

Always remember the sacrifices that they made
The hardships they had to endure,
The bravery of all the soldiers, alive and dead,
So we can live in peace for evermore.
