Byright or Bywrong....??
So burger chain Byron Burger as recently had a bit of a "Public Backlash" about the arrest & possible deportation of some of its workers. Long story short, the company apparently invited some of its employees to a trainning day. When the employees turn up at the trainning day they find customs & immigrations officers waiting for them. Documents are chekced and some apparently are found to be, possibly, in the country &/or working illegally. Home office has apparently comfirmed that Byron Burger carried out the required checks to the required standard, but may have been supplied with good forged documents.
This Public backlash has resulted in protest action being taken, culminating in 2 groups realsing live insects, such as cockroaches and locusts, in two seperate Byron Burger venues.
A Boycottbyronburger hashtag is currently doing the rounds on social media, apparently outraged at Byron Burger's preceived entrapment of possible illeagal migrants working for them. However, as always, social media is also buzzing with plenty of people who say they will go out of their way to support the burger chain in apparently doing the right lawful thing.
Do you think Byron Burger did the right thing in shopping their staff?? Do you think the were wrong? Would you join the boycott? or the counter movement of support? Or do you not really care as long as the supply tasty burgers?

Re: Byright or Bywrong....??
This is a difficult one to answer.
If this is your business and you suspect that you have been mislead into hiring people of false documents then I think you have an obligation to deal with the situation. That is a risk to your business and it's not fair for you to have been put in that situation by anyone so I get that part.
Where I start to pull away from them is in the handling of it, tricking them into a training day trap seems a bit ridiculous, these are still your employees and you have a duty of care after all.
I could understand reporting them and letting the authorities do the rest but I would be more inclined to speak to these people and tell them I couldn't have them on the books anymore so they should try to find their luck elsewhere.
I feel that as a large and prosperous nation we should never be leaving people out in the cold and if they need our help we should give it. People only come here illegally because they are desperate and we have made it illegal for them!
I couldnt say I'd boycott an organisation for that behaviour, they made a call on an employee dispute, they were in the right in a sense and had been deceived by these employees. I just don't think I'd ever go for a drink with the sort of guy that would make that call. I guess he was judging the tone of the nation based on a recent referendum decision

Re: Byright or Bywrong....??
Yeah, it was a bit of a dick move from both parties in my opinion. A Dick move from the people providing false documents & a dick move from the company in tricking employees with the whole trainning day thing. Do 2 dick moves make a fanny move?? Who knows
Don't think I'd really wanna have a drink with either party.

I get why people need to provide false docs in some circumstances though, I can understand desperation and crossing boundaries to survive. These are people willing to work for a living after all and there is a lot to be said for that.
Where are Byron burgers anyway? I dont recognise the name?

I get why they do too. But it's a slap in the face for all the people who have done it the "legal" way. I kind of look at it as possibly taking a job from someone who has jumped through all the hoops to get here. I'm also not completely sold on the desperation thing, especially in this case, considering our location and the borders needed to cross to get here. These aren't people from war torn countries from what I understand.
Byron Burger is a gourmet burger chain. There's a few in London. Not sure if any are outside of London though.

Re: Byright or Bywrong....??
The whole immigration subject is so difficult to stand in judgement on, some people are clearly abusing the system for personal gains whereas others really are in need. The ones that abuse the system muddy the waters so much it's hard not to tar everyone with the same brush.
I hear what you're saying about opportunities being taken from those that followed the rules.
If these really are piss takers and not those in need then shouldn't we be applauding the actions of Byron Burger? Aren't they just going above and beyond to protect all of our interests in this case?

Re: Byright or Bywrong....??
That's what makes this such an interesting case and what makes the public backlash so fascinating. I can not really understand the public outrage given the apparent "factual" details of the case.

There's apparently a protest outside one of their central London venues tonight. Might pop down to see what all the fuss and noise is about.

See if you can understand whether this is just a band wagon situation or is there something else going on?
