Ghostbusters

Ok...anyone who is over the age of 25 and remembers those awesome shoot em up arcade games from the 80's and 90's MUST try this out!

From the second you boot up the machine and hear the whine of Ecto 1's sirens you know you're in for a treat. This is cinematic mindless shoot em up mayhem at its best. The voices are all done by the original cast which really adds to the feeling of authenticity. The music (I defy anyone not to sing along to the theme of Ghostusters whenever they hear it) is excellent and the graphics are eye frazzlingly beautiful.

The game starts at the Sedgewick Hotel which any fan of the movies will tell you is where Peter Venkman infamously gets slimed by the very aptly named Slimer in the first film. Once again you're chasing Slimer through the corridors of the Hotel whilst happily destroying everything in your path but this time you also have a few other ghosts to contend with. I won't spoil it but this time Slimer is the least of your worries. As you trudge along the corridors every so often you'll be told to equip your PKE meter which helps you track the spooks. Like the movie, the little gizmo then pops up on the screen with the beep beep beep that tells you all is not as it seems...With the PKE meter you aren't able to shoot which really helps add to the tension. Is that a real candlestick over there in the corner or is it something else?

Weapons are pretty much what you'd expect. You have the usual photon beams which you'll use most of the time as Egon desperately reminds you not to cross them. The photon packs are fully upgradable so as you progress through the levels so does the power of your armoury. On top of this you have the traps and the way they've recreated having to capture the ghosts is pretty challenging in itself. In this game teamwork is everything and unless you're working closely with your AI chums you can forget about catching much.

The game is a real nostalgic revisit to a childhood favourite film. All the best bits you remember from the films is recreated in all it's pixellated glory. I'm only on level 2 at the moment but I'm now trying to battle Stay Puft through the streets of Manhattan. Great stuff! lol

I wouldn't recommend actually going out and paying full whack for this however. It looks like it could get repetitive very quickly but if you're planning a weekend indoors with a few beers and the odd doobie then this is defo worth a rent.

I'll give it 7 spooks out of 10 :-)
