Oblivion - The Elder Scrolls Empty Oblivion - The Elder Scrolls

Post by Frog 18th August 2010, 10:52 pm

Seems to have taken me most of the evening to get out of the damned sewers!! I'm using an Imperial and went for a warrior class with a Battlemage sign. Lots of strength for carrying stuff to sell a bit of combat and magic mixed in for fun Oblivion - The Elder Scrolls 144416

Thought I might get straight on with the story this time as I never really touched it all last time I played but I can't find a horse!! Looks like I'm going to have to ruin my good name by stealing one from the Chestnut Bay stables Twisted Evil

The sewers are a bloody pain in the ass!! lol

Do the main quest missions as early on as possible. In this game the enemies you face automatically increase in difficulty as you increase in experience so you can't think "ok, lemme level up a bit, come back, and kick the shit out of them later," because when you come back later the same enemies are then likely to be able to throw firebolts at you.

The annoying thing about this though is that the characters that accompany you on some of the main quest missions do NOT level up in proportion. They remain the same strength throughout the game and what happened to me was I got too carried away with the guilds and forgot about the main quest. LAter when I tried to attempt it my sidekicks kept getting killed too easily and I couldn't complete the missions. BUMMER!

My favourite missions have to the assassin ones. To access this part of the game you need to murder a couple of innocents while asleep in their beds and eventually a shadowy figure will approach you...

TBH the warrior class is pretty crap lol You should have plumped for the thief as it gives you more stealth options (the ability to turn invisible for 30 seconds). There are rings and other items that you find as you progress which will double your carrying capability.

Oh yeh...lol Remember to rob any silverware you find in anyone's house. You can't sell stolen items until you become part of the thieves guild but once you do you can make serious amounts of much needed cash. Try pickpocketing the owner of the gem store in imperial city as he leaves work for the day to steal the keys to his shop. Come back later when it's dark, open the door, and then clean that baby out! lmao! Buy the shack in the beggars quarter of the imperial city as soon as you can and use it as storage space.

That's an annoying little quirk isn't it, the idea of leveling up is to make you more powerful within the game not to raise the general standard throughout the game!

I hate the pressure of picking your class, I spend ages weighing it all up and then usually go for a random selection Laughing I did nick the horse and got away with it cheers I'm en route to the lost heir now but I had forgotten just how slow travel is in this one, and how clunky and unsophisticated the movement controls are, my horse can walk sideways for chrissake! I'm enjoying it, I just wish you could run Dunno

hahaha I know what you mean. Pissed me off I can tell you when I was stuck trying to kill some goblins, came back later and they had changed into fire breathing Ogres!

RE: the horse. That's WHY you need the immortal demon horse as soon as possible! Fastest horse in the game AND because he's immortal he can also take out enemies for you by trampling them. Also remember every item has a weight. The more weight you carry the slower your movement. You need that shack as storage so you can pick and choose what you want to wear for whatever part of the game. Once you've found a destination it's marked on your map and you can always fast travel there.

When riding the horse I always switch the 3rd person view. Makes it much easier to control but I prefer the 1st person when on foot. Makes it more immersive for me :)

Got it, immortal super killing horse is next on my to do list. I do the same thing with the camera view to, I can't bear to watch 3rd person on foot with my character gliding over the ground.

I had also forgotten about fast travel, you can only fast travel to locations previously discovered though can't you? Still must save loads of time.

As for storage, when I met Jauffre and he let me stock up from his chest I just chucked all my rusty and leather gear in there hoping I could retrieve it and sell it later but I will get that shack ASAP.

I've just fired up my rusty old laptop so I can post and play without having to swap rooms all the time LP

Last post before bed...

Careful where you store important items. If you don't store them in a secure chest in a building owned by you they WILL eventually be stolen.

See you tomorrow geezer. Stoned

lol My horse just took out a bandit for me! I dismounted to take out a wolf that wouldn't sod off and a bandit started firing arrows at my horse. He legged it after him and kicked him to death before I even got there lol

Right, after 4 attempts at beating those little fire throwing fuckers andgetting nowhere closer to the tower I'm callin it a night. I might need something a bit more powerful to get me through that bit thinking

hahahaha!

You don't need to complete all the gates (just the ones that are part of the main story quests) but there's good rewards in them if you do. Better armour, weapons and special herbs. Also, when you complete a gate you'll get a Sigil Stone at the end. You combine this with any item to give it magical properties.

Each gate is a bit like a maze once you get in the tower but if you don't have the ability to self heal yet they can be a pain. Make sure you're well stocked up on healing potions and save each time you defeat an enemy.

If you're the warrior class though you should be smashing them to bits. Maybe you need a better sword or armour.

Aha!!

You need to buy the shack in the Imperial City beggars quarter. If memory serves me right you have to speak to the King of each city in order to buy houses. You can then kit them out with furniture from the general stores :)

I wouldn't bother keeping any of the items you've got now for long tho. You'll find much much better on your travels. Just equip yourself with a full suit of armour and a decent sword and shield.

While I'm on the subject....join all of the guilds even if you don't want to do the missions. By joining them you can help yourself to supplies in the guild store rooms without
being done for stealing.

Try also becoming a Gladiator in the Imperial Arena. That's good fun lol

Dude I'm getting suicidal here! I have spent the last hour trying to get through the castle at Kavna and the scamps are just destroying me. I've finally made a little headway using a flare spell and retreating whilst firing and dodging but they are just insanely hard to kill. You got a quick way of slaughtering them hat you could let me in on? Mad

Mad I turned into a vampire, I like the strength and other bonuses but the dying in daylight thing was really inconvenient so I reloaded a save point before I became a creature of the night. Lost quite a bit of the story mission though Mad
