Bayonetta (Review) Empty Bayonetta (Review)

Post by Bones 13th January 2010, 10:32 am

Release Date: Out Now!
Platform(s): PS3, X-box360
Developer(s): Platinum Games / Sega
Price: £30 - £40

I've recently purchased this & I must say, Whoever came up with this game is a frikking Genius!! cheers

Bayonetta is a 6 foot (or so) Catsuit clad, sexy, sexy, long legged witch who you will take control of for this game. The storyline seems pretty interesting with Bayonetta having a bout of amnesia & fighting the messengers of "God" Shocked That's right! She's an angel hunter! The "angels" themselves are pretty mean looking & there are loads of them and other enemies to keep you busy.

The Gameplay itself is a bit like "God of War" or "Devil May Cry". Loads of punching & kicking melee action with the addition of four well placed guns (1 in each hand & 1 strapped to each ankle) makes for a massive amount of combo's. Your fingers may well be hurting after a few hours of this as "button bashing" is must with the amount of enemies you will face.

The catsuit she wears is actually magical & forms a part of your magic arsenal, which is great news as at parts in this game Bayonetta is Butt Naked and boy does she look good Twisted Evil

The downsides: The cut-scenes, although funny & interesting, are WAY too long & the music (Starts out with "Fly me to the Moon") gets repetitive and slightly annoying. After an hour of "playing" this game I had seen a lot of action, but hadn't really been involved in a lot of it. Also, not much seems to be available in the way of Online modes & there appears to be No Co-op option, which in this day and age is just scandalous!

Upsides: Like you'd expect from games these days, the graphics are good & the sheer amount of enemies you'll face makes good use of the powerful platforms this game appears on.

All in all it seems like a pretty good game so far, but there's still loads of it to go through. I will keep you updated.

Provisional NR rating: NR NR NR NR NR NR (6 skulls out of 10) This could go up or down, but it's not likely to go down by much.......

Kinda new. I believe it was only released this month. They've been advertising it heavily on TV lately.

Many say that it's a "Must Buy" and, if you're into this kind of gaming action, I would certainly agree Lily

Okay, Clocked this one now.

My original view was a bit harsh as the Music on the game is actually rather good once you get past the first "act". There are also more weapons to be found along the way which can be equipped in a variety of combinations. So far I've found a Whip, a Samurai Sword, shotguns & a pair of electric fire claws.
The cut scenes do cut down a little as you go through the game, but I've noticed that the cinematics haven't made full use of the consoles on which this game appears. It's mainly still photography, which makes no sense when you consider the power of the PS3 & X-Box360.

Saying that, the game is rather challenging and is not just a button basher. Timing is essential to staying alive as well as getting out some of your stronger more awesome combo's. You need to marry this timing with speed & concentration as well as forward planning in some cases.

All in all a good game and it's certainly replayable (I'm currently half way through my third stint).

Revised NR Rating = NR NR NR NR NR NR NR (7 / 10)

A good game, but needs to be longer & a little harder. Also need to make an on-line mode available & there's plenty scope for Multiplayer so why this was left out is beyond me. If you have the spare cash floating around then you might wanna get this. If not then rent it for the weekend. Dedicate the weekend to it & you won't need longer than that.

You might be right there thinking It's set up nicely for a sequel & there's no reason at all why the sequel couldn't have Co-op mode included at the very least........
