Size Matters........
Kate Moss has this morning been slammed by some sections of the media & health groups due to comments she made in an interview. Her motto of "Nothing tastes as good as skinny feels” has been said to be irresponsible and "pro-anorexia".
Now, I've never really been one to be into the "Size Zero" look. I prefer my women with a bit more meat on their bones. But, why is being skinny such a problem? Why is it that anorexia & other eating disorders cause such a fuss in today’s society? There's a war on fat people & a war on skinny people. Some eat too much, some do not eat enough but why are the choices of apparently free people slammed in such a way? Why do we, as a society, keep telling people how they should live their lives?
Is it really wrong to be really skinny?
Is it really wrong to be really fat?
Do you agree with the supermodel's comments or do you think that saying such things is irresponsible?
What are your thoughts on the much debated "Size Zero"? Do you stirve to be skinny? Do you strive to be fat? Do you worry about your weight, look & figure? Is this something that we, as a society, should be giving so much attention to?

Re: Size Matters........
Ah, okay. I get it now. But I do know a few slim women (under a UK size 10) who are very unhappy at their current size & would like to be at least a size 16. In my opinion, if the pendulum swings one way it must also swing the other, so whilst there are some who would like to be skinny, there must be those who would like to be fat.
What is it with being skinny anyway? Why are so many women so body conscious?

Well I think a person may desire to be a size 16..........if they're a size 20+.......and I also think it's defo not just a female thing!!.......Methinks men fret just as much over their shapes and bodies!!.........I mean who wants to be fat!!....male or female!!.......or skinny for that matter!!.......Basically we all wanna be perfect!!.........Size zero...stoopidly skinny.....yuk.....total turn off for me!!.........I'm a size ten....12 on top!....I wouldn't wanna be any bigger or smaller!!............

Re: Size Matters........
I think the massive pressure put on women to be slim comes from women themselves. The majority of men in today's society crave a woman with curves & meat on her bones. In fact, in a poll conducted a little while back around 87% of men asked said they hate skinny women & find it a turn off, much preferring a woman with more meat. A dress size 12-14 was found to be the most popular amongst the men asked.
I know most women are body conscious, even if they don't admit it, but why? It's can't be to do with their attractiveness to the opposite sex as men would prefer a curvy figure. Are women their own worst critics & in turn their own worst enemy?
P.S Helllllllllllllllllo Jill!!!

So Jez, are you saying that all overweight people are unhappy & want to be slimmer? I consider that most things in today’s world are like a triple edged sword. Some want too much. Some want too little. Some want just enough. There must be people on all parts of that spectrum & there must be people at totally opposite ends of that spectrum.
There are some men who are conscious about their bodies, but not that many in my opinion. With men I think it's more an Alpha Male thing & muscles are more what they are after. A lot of it is to do with our attractiveness to the opposite sex rather than how we view ourselves. After all, rugby players get a lot of attention from women & most of them are actually clinically obese. Generally, Men like to be more bulky whereas women seem to want to be slighter, but, as with everything, there must be exceptions to the rules don't you think?

Pretty much yes I'm saying that....not unhappy in general as such.......but unhappy with their bodies!!.......Some fat people may say they're totally happy with their bodies...but I'm not sure deep down of the total truth in that!!.........to be honest...and that is my opinion!!........Being overweight is not desirable to anyone!!..there will all eb exceptions to every rule...so I say this as a more popular and general perception!!....
As for men...I don't agree with you there!!.....Men are just as concious of being overweight as women are.....but arn't so publically loud about it!!....It's not all about muscles and macho stuff!!......If a guy was superbly musclely....he wouldn't be fat would he??.....I think men struggle with weight issues just like us.......they might wanna be tall...and well built....but not fat!!
I do agree though that there are always exceptions to the rule!!.........
And btw.........hello!!....

Re: Size Matters........
Exception to the rule!! Natalie Cassidy (Sonya from eastenders) got slim and then said she was happier when she was fat so she piled the burgers back on. I don't think it makes much difference either way, she'll always be a ten pint double bagger to me
Re: Size Matters........
I totally agree with TY............which is the same reason I think fat people say they like being fat....coz they can't shift it!!.........and I don't mean that horribly!!.

Re: Size Matters........
And what about the people who don't even attempt to shift it? Those who have never tried to shift it & have no intention of trying to shift it. Are they also unhappy that they cannot shift the weight?

Re: Size Matters........
You can tell when someone is unhappy with things as they will at least try to change it. The ones who have lost the weight don't need to say that deep down they weren't happy with the weight as they have proven this point by losing the weight in the first place. Don't see the point of losing it if you're happy with the way you are........
We're always told that it's the person inside which counts, so why is it so difficult to believe that there are people who are overweight who are happy being so?
I'm sure there are also many people who are underweight who, again, are happy being so.
But why is it such a big deal either way? Why are people made to feel that being over or under weight is wrong...?

Re: Size Matters........
I don't think people are 'made' to feel that way...I think it comes naturally to them!!.........and it's only a big deal to the person who cares about it!!...personally I don't care whether people are fat or thin.........long as they don't sit on me on the bus.........and everyone says it's the person inside that counts...and it's so true.........but they see the person on the outside first...before they know the person on the inside!!......and fat or very thin is not desirable.......so you may not give that person a chance to show what's on the inside!!.......
There may actually be people who are happy with these less desirable figures...but not as a general rule I don't think!!

Re: Size Matters........
I think people are made to feel that way whether intentionally or not. Take Africa for instance. In many parts of Africa the Bigger female is desired over the slimmer female. As this is the case, slim African women tend to be ridiculed & the butt of many jokes. Really skinny ones are sympathised over & thought to be poor & starving. These women soon end up gaining weight & are happier as a result because people treat them differently and pay them more favourable attention.
Over here it's the other way round. Fat people are the ones made fun of. Really skinny ones are still given sympathy & constantly offered help as they are thought to be Ill. When these women get to a size 10 - 12 people start to treat them differently which makes them happier.........
Also our most celebrated celebs aren't generally larger ladies. Their pictures are splashed all over the place with them wearing next to nothing & the picture goes through "Airbrushing" to make them almost perfect. These images are what we see every day & are pumped into us constantly as the way we "should" look. Supermodels are supposed to be the best looking & sexiest women around, yet it can be difficult to find a supermodel over a size 8........ People naturally want to be the best, so who will they look to for their blueprint to be the best.....?
