Back into Time.....

Re: On this day
Love a little B&T!! So let's keep this going! No WAY!!!........... WAY!
2005 - To infinity..... Space shuttle "Discovery" launches into Space on mission STS-114. This is significant as it was the first space mission launched since the "Columbia" shuttle disaster the previous year.
1847 - unchained..... With the Document written by Hilary Teague and announced by Joseph Jenkins Roberts, Liberia (in Western Africa) Declares independence from "The American Colonization Society". This appears to have been the plan of the American Colonization Society anyway, with them giving up control of the region in January of that year and apparently fully encouraged independence for the colony. Just under 6 months later (Jan 3rd 1848) Joseph Jenkins Roberts is elected Liberia's First Black American President

Re: On this day
Not much of note happened on this day in History. Let's see what we can dig up...
1966 - 3 Lions on the Shirt....... Yep, England win the 8th FIFA World Cup in London, England! In 50 years since they have failed to even get to another world cup final.... Or European cup final..... Or final of any international tournament.... Except Le Tournoi... they won that in 1997....
1961 - Blue pill... or Red Pill - Actor/playwright/producer/director, Laurence Fishburne is born in Augusta, Georgia (USA). Best known for roles in The Matrix (Morpheus) & Boyz n The Hood (Furious Styles) amongst others. He was the first Black American to portray "Othello" in a film (1995). Also portrayed Ike Turner in the film "What's Love got to Do With it" (1993) a film based on Ike & Tina Turner's relationship (Also Starring Angela Bassett as Tina Turner).
1958 - It's getting Bushy... - Singer/Songwriter Kate (Catherine) Bush CBE is born in Bexleyheath (Kent), England. Did you know that she was the first woman to have a UK number-one single which was self written? (Wuthering Heights - 1978 - 4 weeks @ No.1)
1947 - Get to the Chopper! - Bodybuilder/Actor/Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger is born in Austria. Goes on to be Mr Universe (3 consecutive times) & Mr Olympia (7 consecutive times!) amongst other Bodybuilding titles. Also a successful actor after being cast as Hercules in his first ever role "Hercules in New York" (1970) then goes on to become Hollywood royalty with roles in films such as Conan the Barbarian, Predator (Only the first one), Terminator (All of them thus far), Kindergarten Cop, Junior, Twins, The Expendables and many many more!
Also becomes the 38th Govenor of California (2003 - 2011)
1863 - Auto rolling - Henry Ford is born in Michigan, USA. Founder of the Ford Motor company... He didn't invent the Automobile though.
1818 - about to hit the Heights... - Quite fittingly, considering another person born on this day, Author, Emily Bronte is born in Yorkshire, England. She goes on to write Wuthering Heights.
I'm pooped

Speaking of birthdays.......
1965 - Yate, near Bristol saw the birth of one J K Rowling. Today, 51 years later, she released the 8th Harry Potter book. I for one am looking forward to reading it cover to cover.
I really want to be a wizard

2012 - only a few years ago Mars curiosity rover touches down on the red planet
How strange then that:
1996 - NASA announces that ALH 84001, thought to originate from Mars, contains signs of primitive life

Re: On this day
Let's venture back to times gone by. On this day in.........
1963 - Great Scott!!...... The "Great Train Robbery" £2.6 million is stolen... Not much really... but adjusted for today we'd be looking at about £49 million or so..... Still think there are bigger thieves in government..... Apparently a couple of Land rovers were used as the getaway cars.
1940 - To battle!! - The battle of Britain kicks off as The German Luftwaffe attacks Great Britain for the first time. Britain takes a pounding but keeps calm & carry's on.....
