Fallout 3........

Fallout 3, Nightryder Review. LP

Well, this game shocked me! After obtaining it as a present I looked at the cover & took an instant dislike to it. I didn’t think it would be my kind of game. After playing it once for about 2 hours & getting nowhere I thought that it would be used as nothing more than a small portable table. But how wrong I was. A day of boredom saw me pick up this game & dedicate the kind of time that you should to any new game. From this moment I was hooked. Let me explain. The game is based after a nuclear war. The USA has been wiped out & is now nothing more than a wasteland with pockets of humans living in various places throughout the wasteland, including underground vaults. An underground vault is where you will begin this game but you won’t be there for long………

You start the game as a baby. Literally being born & opening your eyes for the first time to see your caring father’s silhouette looking down at you. From here you start choosing things like your name, your gender, your race, your facial features, even what your hair will look like when you get older. We then skip forward in time to you as a toddler in an underground vault, at this point you start to grasp the controls of the game & decide on what level your core skills will be at. We then fast forward in time to a birthday party in your favour. At this point you receive your “PipBoy 3000” which will stay with you throughout the game. Take a little time to familiarise yourself with it. It’s a bit like your inventory, world & local map, receivable radio stations & status all rolled into one. You can also begin to learn some combat skills & how to handle a BB gun, which is given to you as a birthday present. Skip again (I know, but it’s much better when you actually play it) to you as a 17 year old where you’ll be taking you G.O.A.T test. This test will determine what your other major skills will be. Throughout all this you can interact with everyone & almost everything you see in some way or another. During your interactions with people throughout the game you will have multiple options as to what you say to them. Be careful because other characters will react accordingly depending on what you say to them. Basically you can go through the game as Very good, Good, Neutral, Evil or very evil, all of which are decided by your actions throughout the game & your responses & interactions to non playable characters. Twisted Evil

I won’t spoil it by telling you how or why, but you eventually leave the comfort of your vault & head out into the wastelands. This is where the game starts to pick up & get very interesting. You have a main mission which can be completed in any order you wish & there is no time limit to what you complete & when. There are also LOADS of side missions which you can choose to do or not. The game world is VAST, really massive (and that’s not an exaggeration). You’ll visit towns & other small communities, choose to help them, hinder them or even annihilate them. Face raiders, Slavers, Robots, mutated insects, mutated bears, mutated crabs, mutated humans, Super Mutants, military forces, you’ll even be hunted by bounty hunters and may have to face off against aliens! affraid pale

You have a whole arsenal of weaponry in which to help you on your way from a flick knife to a baseball bat to plasma rifles to Mini-Nuke launchers & Alien blasters, not to mention making your own weapons which can fire all sorts of junk that you may find in the wasteland. The in game V.A.T.S system is simply AWESOME, pausing the game to allow you to target specific body parts of your enemies & then release each blow or shot in “Matrix” like bullet time. Watch as that 5mm bullet races from your gun into the skull of the enemy in super slow mo, then watch as that same skull explodes releasing blood, brains & bits of skull all over the screen! Yummy! Twisted Evil

You also have different clothing which can be useful for different situations, from doctor’s outfits to radiation suits & Tesla Power Amour. You can “recruit” various companions along the way, but who will join you will depend entirely on what your karma status is. Some will only join you if you’re evil, others if you’re neutral & others if you are good. These non playable companions can be useful & useless in equal measure.

With different DLC packs available (or get the “Game of the Year Edition” to have these already included) the game can keep you entertained for weeks. Even after you’ve finished it the first time (If you’re not a quivering wreck) you’ll play it at least twice more just to see what the other 2 paths are (Good, Evil, Neutral) and also to make slightly different choices.

All in all this game has everything you could ask for. Action, Adventure, comedy, First person view, 3rd person view, blood, gore, excitement, small weapons, big weapons, hand to hand combat, a massive map to explore & much much more! Available on PS3 (GOTY edition available in October), PC & X-Box360. And the great thing is this, as it’s been out for a while, you can get all this for the tidy price of around £30-£35 for the GOTY edition or a bit cheaper if you get it online. Shocked Surprised

Set aside some time, tell the kids to leave you alone, tell the wife you’ll see her at Christmas & take leave from work. Trust me, get into this game & you’ll need it!

Nightryder Game rating = 9/10 cheers cheers

Well done Bethesda Studios. To describe this game in one word……. That word hasn’t been created yet so I’ll create one. Superfantabulouciouslyawesometastic! Bella Chin Chin
